CLARETS boss Stan Ternent will be looking long and hard at his defensive options over the next few weeks.

Centre back Andy Todd plays his final game for Burnley in tomorrow's Turf Moor meeting with Walsall before returning to Blackburn Rovers and Ternent has not ruled out drafting in another loan player to cover the loss.

Ternent faces being without former Manchester United player David May for next weekend's home clash with Reading after the central defender picked up a red card in the 2-2 draw at Wimbledon, yet he has decided to extend Arthur Gnohere's loan spell at QPR into a second month.

"I have extended Arthur's loan deal, but we have got instant recall on him," explained Ternent.

"It is just one of those areas we are going to have to keep looking at.

"Mark McGregor is going to be out injured for a while longer, and David May is a doubt for tomorrow's game due to a hamstring strain.

"But we have enough players and we will have a look at what we have.

Ternent said: "Andy Todd is returning after the game and obviously we are disappointed that he is going back.

"But I appreciate the position that Graeme Souness is in at the moment, and I also appreciate him loaning us Andy in the first place.

"If it is possible at a later time we might take Andy again, but we will be looking to see if there are any opportunities to bring another player in - we are always looking for players."

As for Todd, he wasn't ruling out a return to Turf.

"It has been a good spell here and I have been very happy with Burnley," said Todd.

"Really I am just grateful of having the chance to play first team football.

"Obviously the suspension and injury situation at Blackburn means that I have been called back, but you never know I might be back at Burnley some time in the future.

"From my point of view I just want to be playing football and for me coming back would not be a problem whether it was a loan or maybe even on a more permanent basis."

And Todd was hoping for a good result against Walsall to leave Turf Moor on a high note.

"Playing first division football is that little bit more physical than in the Premiership and I have really enjoyed playing with Burnley," he added.

"I feel that we have perhaps not got the results we have deserved at times, I certainly feel that we could have come away from both Wimbledon and Watford with wins rather than draws, but the side has played well.

"But Walsall will be another hard game. You just have to look at some of the experienced players they have in their side to know they could turn it on, but we have to be confident with the way we are playing."

Todd also enjoyed his chance to play with former Rovers defender David May.

"It has been great to play alongside him," said Todd.

"He has a lot of confidence on the ball and is a strong player, and he has plenty of aggression as well."

However, the 29-year-old was unsure just whether he would be in contention for a first team place when he returned to Ewood Park.

"Looking at the results the club is suffering a little hiccup at the moment, but they should do well against Leeds tomorrow," said Todd.

"Blackburn are a good side and on their day they can beat any team in the Premiership.

"But I'll have to see what is happening when I get back. There are injuries and suspensions at the moment, but it is up to the manager who plays and I just want to be playing first team football."
