BURY'S Terry Dunfield was delighted to team up with former Manchester City teammate Glenn Whelan on Tuesday evening.
The duo, who played for almost four years in City's reserve side, formed a superb midfield trio with Paul O'Shaughnessy in the 2-0 victory over York City.
Republic of Ireland Under-20 international Whelan is on loan at Gigg Lane for a month while Dunfield was newly restored to the first team after a lengthy shoulder injury.
"It was awesome to get back playing again, especially with Glenn, and the fans were brilliant to me," said Dunfield.
"I think the two of us know we can do better together in midfield as we were thrown in at the deep end on Tuesday, and hopefully there more to come.
"Nevertheless, I think the three of us, with 'Shaughny', did well for our first game together."
