RORY Prendergast harbours ambitions of playing in the Football League - and he wants to do it with Accrington Stanley.

The winger has taken the Nationwide Conference by storm this season - his wonder goal in the pre-season friendly against Burnley possibly the catalyst for a good campaign so far.

His name is one of the first on manager John Coleman's team sheet each week, which is why the 24-year-old wants to test himself at a higher level.

"It's nice to be playing every week, but I still think I'm better than that league," he said.

"I would like to go on to a higher level with Accrington, and there's no reason why that can't happen because there are teams in the Third Division which aren't as good as us.

"It might not happen this season because this might just be a learning curve for us.

"But we could have a real crack at it next year.

"Saying that though, we've made a decent start and are already near the play-off places, and there's no reason why our run should end."

But Stanley won't be looking any further than tomorrow's Nationwide Conference game away to Northwich Victoria, who play at Witton Albion's Wincham Park ground.

New manager Alvin McDonald will be looking to get off to a good start in his first game in charge following the sacking of Steve Davis last week.

Prendergast had a two-month loan spell with the Vics while he was on York City's books, but the Yorkshireman doesn't feel he has a point to prove.

"It was five or six years ago," he said. "I played a couple of games, it was a good set-up and a good bunch of lads, but in the end I went back to York."

Meanwhile, Stanley manager John Coleman has urged his side to be more clinical in front of goal following last Saturday's 3-3 draw at home to Woking.

"I was a bit disappointed we didn't win," he said. "We created enough opportunities to win it in the end but we just need to be more ruthless in our finishing."

Dean Calcutt is Stanley's only injury concern for tomorrow's game (kick-off 3pm) as he is still sidelined with a broken wrist.

Mike Marsh has quit as manager of Burscough just three months after taking over from Shaun Teale.

The FA Trophy holders appointed Marsh after he left Accrington Stanley at the end of last season, but Burscough are bottom of the UniBond Premier Division and haven't won since the opening day.
