RAMSBOTTOM manager Andy Grimshaw has signed Will Archer and Robbie Smith ahead of tomorrow's game at home to Congleton Town.

And both new boys come from good stock as 20-year-old centre forward Archer was on Bolton Wanderers' books as a youngster while former Padiham and Rossendale right sided player Smith was unlucky not to be offered professional terms with Burnley.

And the signings have come at the right time for Grimshaw, who is set to have Matt Swailes, Danny Goodall and Chris Clark suspended in the next few weeks, while Danny Heys will miss around six games through suspension and his forthcoming wedding.

Nevertheless, the Rams' boss is keen to build on their recent good form and climb the North West Counties Division One table.

"It will be a tough match tomorrow," Grimshaw said. Congleton are well up the league and are a strong side, but we haven't done too badly in our last eight games and I'm confident, especially with being at home."

Grimshaw added he was pleased with the signings he has made but was still looking to strengthen the defence by signing a centre half.
