TERRY Wood won the Evalast Super Merit by a record 25 points but was pressed all the way by several challengers.
David Hoyle was the local player nearest to taking the award but was only one win adrift of top place.
The Alex man recorded a massive 131 total aggregate score and following his fourth place in 2003 underlined his consistency at this level.
Again 2001 champion Frank Herbert was prominent on the leaderboard and only a poor start to the campaign prevented him reaching pole position.
But after overtaking team mate Jim Melling in July he only lost two of his nine games.
Tony Dobson won the closest club race on record when he edged out Great Harwood team mates Malcolm Wensley and Glyn Dodd by just a handful of aggregate points.
Team captain Stuart Gall was also in the race for honours and his total 18 points was a good achievement.
Witton number one Aldo Staffa eclipsed several star players to secure a well-deserved club award.
New names on the block this time were Chris Pickup, Alan Lancaster, Andrew Harley, Phil Wood, Brian Oakes, John Wade and Nick Kershaw.
This unique individual merit competition along with new sponsor Evalast has made a big impact on everyone involved and provided some superb contests in the bargain.
Several new names who made their presence felt throughout the campaign have served to raise the standard.
Good news for competitors is that plastic fencing manufacturers Evalast have announced further support in 2004.
