IN response to readers' comments concerning the massive increase in speed cameras, there is a very simple, cost-effective way of dealing with them.

You can actually buy from any reputable car accessory firm or shop a camera detection unit called "snooper" which detects all forms of radar from around a mile distance from the camera or other speed traps and costs around £75.

I have been amazed, with using this unit, just how many cameras are actually non-operational at certain times and it has saved me many times from being clocked while just over the speed limit.

I also advise people not to treat this gadget as a way of escaping speeding fines, but to treat it as a way of promoting better driving skills as each time it starts clicking the driver knows that radar is about and will automatically adjust their speed and slow down.

This should have a dramatic effect on cutting accidents and encouraging motorists not to speed.

And as the cost of the unit is just over the cost of one entrapment fine, I think they should be made compulsory to promote safer driving.
