A RURAL MP has written to youngsters in his constituency inviting them to take part in a House of Commons writing competition.
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has written to schools inviting pupils aged 10 to 13 to take part in the Parliamentary Press Gallery Bicentenary Essay Competition.
The competition aims to stimulate discussion among youngsters about Parliament and politics, by inviting them to write about a piece of legislation they would introduce, or ways to encourage young people to vote.
Winners of the competition will spend a day at the House of Commons with political journalists and senior politicians.
Mr Evans said: "Apathy towards politics is at an all-time high and politicians must do all they can to engage young people in politics.
"I wholeheartedly welcome this competition and have written to pupils in my constituency encouraging them to take part."
The competition closes on Tuesday, November 4, and further details are available from Nigel Evans at the House of Commons on 0207 219 6939.
