Beddows leads Knuzden onslaught

KNUZDEN Youth under-17s notched a 6-1 away win at Brierfield in the Red Rose Blackburn Youth League.

There was a great display from young striker Anthony Beddows who grabbed five, Gordon McKay got the other goal. Stand-in captain midfielder Steve Downall was man of the match after another outstanding display.

Meanwhile, Knuzden Seniors took on unbeaten Lower Darwen in Division One of the Blackburn Sunday League at Pleasington and gained three good points. An own goal and a Christian Clarkson strike settled the game.

WHALLEY Juniors Pumas Under 14s exited the LFA Cup at the first hurdle as they rued missed chances in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brunlea FC.

The Pumas started well and Arran McCarthy was unlucky to see his top corner-bound shot superbly saved by the Brunlea keeper. After 20 minutes the Pumas failed to clear a soft through ball and Brunlea pounced to take the lead.

Brunlea made it 2-0 soon after, but Grant Eccleston's free kick hit the bar, seemed to go over the line but bounced back out and play was waved on. Brunlea then got the killer third goal just before the interval.

Chances fell to both teams in the second period, but it was Brunlea who made it 4-0 and the Pumas LFA Cup was over.

Meanwhile, Whalley's under-10s excellent start to the season was continued in footballing terms, but unfortunately the final scoreline did not reflect this fact.

Foulridge opened the scoring with a breakaway goal, but Whalley were soon back on terms with a nice interchange of passing down the right hand side which was finished by a fantastic right foot volley by Zack Hardman. Whalley then continued to make chance after chance and were soon in front with a goal from man of the match Thomas Fielding.

After the break Whalley went to sleep and conceded two goals in the first minute which put Foulridge into the lead again. Whalley then spent most of the second half in the opposing team's half but could not find a way through.

WHALLEY Rovers under-10s notched a fine 4-1 win over Teal Tigers

There was another fine performance by Whalley Rovers was started by a solo effort from William James, but the Tigers equalised to bring the scores level at half time.

Whalley came out after the break with a better attitude and retook the lead once again with another from William James. Ben Ratcliffe added another and Robert Spouse rounded off some good work as he sent the keeper the wrong way to score Whalley's fourth of the night.
