A REGENERATION boss has pledged to try and help workers who will lose their jobs at Hoddlesden's Vernon-Carus factory.
The firm, which manufactures healthcare products, has blamed increasing competition from the Far East for the loss of up to 80 jobs over a nine-month wind down period at the base.
The factory will close, although alternative opportunities will be explored in the company's two other Lancashire sites at Penwortham and Walton Summit.
Coun Andy Kay, Blackburn with Darwen Council's executive member for regeneration, said: "This is another huge blow to the people of Darwen as another important local manufacturing company decides to close.
"During the next nine months we will offer our help and assistance through the Redundancy Task Force, working with the company and any individuals affected. This could be in the form of accessing employment opportunities, retraining or help and guidance for self employment."
