A CHILD sex fiend currently behind bars for five years will not now face trial on further indecency charges.
Two allegations of attempted indecent assault against Trevor Ashworth, 40, were ordered to lie on the file at Burnley Crown Court.
The prosecution told the court there was no public interest in pursuing the charges after the defendant was recently found guilty of indecent assault and indecency with a child.
Ashworth, of Hurtley Street, Burnley, was recently given an eight-year extended sentence by Judge Barbara Watson after being convicted by a jury. He must serve five years in jail and was given three years extended licence.
The court had been told Ashworth was still in denial about his behaviour, had little empathy for the girl he assaulted and did not see her as a victim.
Ashworth abused her when she was about 11-years-old and then struck again when she was about 13. The victim felt unable to speak out about what had happened to her and her ordeal had had a significant adverse effect upon her.
