THE headteacher of Barden County High School has praised teachers and pupils at the school's annual prize evening.
Dr Adrian Lythgoe said: "I have pride in the pupils, not only for their academic success, but for each individual, for the contribution they make to Barden as a harmonious community.
"Secondly, I have a sense of gratitude to the staff for their on-going commitment and loyalty.
"At Barden we are very lucky to have a staff, both teaching and non-teaching, who give selflessly over and above the basic requirements of their roles."
He said that this year's GCSE results had been among the best set of results for boys in Burnley, which reflected both the boys' ability and the support they had received from teachers.
Dr Lythgoe said he was looking forward to the proposed future investment to be made into secondary education in Burnley and in housing in the borough, through East Lancashire Elevate funding.
He said: "It appears that there will be a serious attempt to address the difficulties faced by Burnley and the next few years are going to be very exciting.
Special guest for the evening was former pupil Simon Brierley, who is now a presenter on local radio station 2BR.
Simon presented the year group prizes and the school subject prizes to the lucky winners.
The vote of thanks was given by head boy, Askir Miah and music was provided by pupils.
