THE Tory traffic supremo promised his party conference to crackdown on "sneaky" speed cameras such as the notorious East Lancashire example on Whalley Road, Great Harwood.
Yesterday the Shadow Transport Secretary Tim Collins pledged to representatives in Blackpool that he would launch a review of speed camera sites to ensure they were only used to improve road safety and improve accident blackspots and not raise revenue for police forces and local authorities.
And he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph that the Great Harwood example was just the type of camera he wanted removed.
Ribble Valley Tory MP Nigel Evans backed the move branding the particular camera "devious''.
Motorists have complained that the camera in Whalley Road after turning out of Harwood New Road, Great Harwood, towards Accrington is not properly signed or visible after several were caught speeding on film.
They also complain that the cameras went up immediately after the speed limit was changed from 40 miles an hour to 30 last month without due warning.
The signs were erected by Hyndburn Council.
Mr Collins said too many speed cameras were being put up deliberately to catch motorists out to raise cash from the fines to pay for more cameras.
Instead he said they must be used only to tackle accident blackspots.
