WATCH out Sven, Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans might just have found himself a new career!

Mr Evans took to life as a football manager like a duck to water when his first stab at being boss of the Tory Party team saw his side record a 6-3 win over the Parliamentary Press Gallery.

It was the first time the Tories have beaten their press pack opponents since 1999.

The game, at Blackpool FC's Bloomfield Road on the first day of the Tory Party conference, saw Mr Evans' side chalk up a win despite the problem affecting the current England international team - a lack of left-wingers.

Shadow Welsh Secretary Mr Evans said: "We played as a team and nobody tried to undermine me as the boss. That is what we need to do to win the next election!"

Meanwhile Blackburn Rovers fan and Hyndburn MP Greg Pope added: "Nigel is obviously a much better soccer manager than he is a politician. I think a career change is called for."

One of the opponents, David Cornock of BBC Wales, quipped: "Nigel's approach to the job was more Graeme Souness or Sir Alex Ferguson than Arsene Wenger.

"Characteristically, he did try to marshal most of the play down the right wing."
