THREE sisters raised £800 for charity after taking part in the toughest road race in the North of England.
Denise Gaffing, 38, and Bernadette Gaffing, 33, both of Brooklyn Road, Wilpshire, and their sister-in-law, Lesley Gaffing, 36, of Knowsley Road, Wilpshire, took part in the 13-mile Great North Run through Gateshead to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Society. Denise, a community nurse with the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Primary Care Trust, has run the race four times but it was the first time Bernadette and Lesley had taken part.
The trio raised the cash from sponsorship on behalf of a family member who is a cystic fibrosis sufferer and Denise hopes to raise further cash by taking part in the London Marathon next April.
Mum Marie Gaffing said: "Thank you for the report in the Evening Telegraph, as a result of which my daughters received sponsorship from old neighbours and friends."
