A RIDING centre for disabled and disadvantaged people across East Lancashire has issued an appeal for volunteer helpers so it can continue providing sessions.

Lords House Farm, in Wilpshire, Road, Rishton, needs volunteers to support disabled riders in its therapy sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings.

The volunteers could be leading ponies or walking alongside them to support a child. Full training will be provided to anyone who has little experience of horses.

Weekend volunteers are also needed to help out with mainstream classes.

Volunteer co-ordinator, Kath Thacker, said: "We have about 50 volunteers covering the whole week and we really need at least a couple more for each session.

"Sometimes one child can need three people to support them during a session so we do need a lot of people. Anyone who is over 14, reliable and willing to have fun will be welcomed."

Bring history alive

VOLUNTEERS are needed to bring history alive for people interested in East Lancashire's cotton trade heritage. Bancroft Mill, in Barnoldswick, holds regular 'steaming days' every week from spring until the end of October to demonstrate the engine which used to power looms.

Volunteers are needed to help with odd jobs and maintenance as well as running the engine. Anyone interested should call Jim Gill on 01282 865626.
