A FATHER-of-two who lost his temper and smashed the jaw of a man he had thought was a one-time love rival has been jailed.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Andrew Bond, 31 -- whose victim Craig Pilkington believed was a trained full-contact kick boxer -- assaulted him in front of his partner because he suspected he was the father of his child.
He demanded to see Mr Pilkington's mobile telephone for any evidence of calls between him and his former girlfriend Sarah Foster on the phone's memory. Bond, who has trained in Ju Jitsu, then kicked him in the face.
Mr Pilkington had to take seven weeks' unpaid sick leave off work, was forced to go on a liquid diet and lost almost two stones in weight. He still suffered shooting pain in his face, as well as toothache and had been left with money problems after the attack in February.
Bond, who also flouted a restraining order forbidding him from contacting his former partner four days after it was imposed, was jailed for 18 months.
Sentencing him, Recorder Kevin Talbot said whether he was a trained full contact kick boxer or not -- and he was prepared to accept Bond was not -- the kick to the side of Mr Pilkington's head, as he was sitting down, caused him extremely serious injury. Only custody could be justified. Bond, of St Anne Street, Padiham, had earlier admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm. He had also been committed for sentence by the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale magistrates after being convicted of breaching the 12 month restraining order by phoning Miss Foster five times in one day.
Charles Brown, defending, said Bond was 'extremely remorseful' for what happened in February. It was a momentary loss of temper and out of character.
