A CHIPPY in Colne has been named the best in the North West and is now hoping to win a place in the national final of the Chip Shop of the Year awards. Cemetery Chippy, in Keighley Road, has to go up against friers in Cheshire to win through to the final stages of the competition.
Les and Val Scott and their son-in-law Simon Stuart, who own the takeaway, will undergo a five-hour inspection by a judge and will be awarded points. If they win more points than the Cheshire chippy they will be vying for the national title.
They have been entering the competition, organised by the National Association of Fish Friers and the Scotland-based Seafish Industries, for five years and have won the North West title before and been runners up in the UK final.
Les said: "We are going to really go for it this year to try and win the top prize."
