A REEDLEY engineer has described plans to ban cars from a bus stop in front of his home as "bureaucratic bonkers."

Andy Blackmore, 37, of Colne Road, has a bus stop outside his terraced home, which has no car parking restrictions in place next to it.

Lancashire County Council is proposing to mark the area next to the bus stop as a 'clearway', which would mean cars could no longer park there.

Mr Blackmore has criticised the plans claiming they are unnecessary, would leave four householders with nowhere to park and would remove a disabled parking space used by one resident.

He also said the plans were a waste of money as the stop would still have less facilities than the one two minutes' walk down the road, which is equipped with shelter, lighting and timetable facilities, as well as more bus services.

Mr Blackmore said: "This seems like bureaucratic bonkers. It's crazy when there is a perfectly good bus stop two minutes down the road with facilities this one will never have.

"This plan will cause a major parking problem and a disabled parking space will be lost. There will be nowhere we can park our cars legally.

"It may seem like a petty issue but this is something the residents just don't want and it's just spending money for the sake of it because they think everywhere must have the same."

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: "The reason for the clearway is to allow buses to pull in right to the kerb, which is higher to improve access for disabled people.

"The standard clearway is 37 metres long but because we have listened to what local people say about parking we have reduced it to 13 metres in this case. We recognise that bus passengers need the facilities as well."
