A HEARTBREAKING stoppage time wonder goal ripped the first point of the season from Burnley Reserves' grasp.

On a roller-coaster night at Tranmere, the Clarets second string took the lead three times through trialist Edward Kerr, Joel Pilkington and Damien Hindle penalty.

But Rovers hit back each time and grabbed the winner through a 45-yard lob by Rovers Steve Jennings.

The defeat is the fifth in as many games for Ronnie Jepson's hugely inexperienced side, which was given some steel last night by the inclusion of defender Lee Roche - playing as a centre half - and midfielder Tony Grant.

But Jepson insists results are of little significance at this stage as he looks to blood his youngsters for the long road ahead.

He said: "Overall I am pleased with the attitude I have seen from the lads and if they can just start to eradicate the little mistakes, they will go from strength to strength.

"Football is a tough old world and if you don't learn quickly, there is always somebody waiting to take your place."
