Manchester's Babylon kebab house came out second in a bid to find the UK's hottest kebab chilli sauce.

Nineteen-year-old Chris Swindell was asked to tour the country tasting more than 50 kebab chilli sauces in ten cities.

After Shock, makers of an alcoholic drink, commissioned Chris to undertake the job and the hottest sauce was found at the Scotland Turkish Kebab House in Glasgow.

The takeaway's sauce is said to be 39% hotter than the average chilli condiment - enough to test even the strongest of stomachs.

It has 700 scoville units, the food science industry's barometer for heat.

Babylon Kebab House chilli sauce had nearly 620 scoville units.

Leeds' O Yes Kebab House came in third, with 580 scoville units.

The hottest sauces from each city were sent to an independent food science research company for analysis, to be measured for the number of scoville units.

Chris, from Stockport said, "It wasn't an easy job tasting over 50 kebabs and chilli sauces, especially as I was touring the country during the heat wave.

"I'm sure it will stand me in good stead for when I go back to university, though my stomach can't take any more now."
