NEW generation artists Natalie Clein and Paul Lewis are joining forces for a concert at Lancaster University.

With Clein on cello and Lewis on piano, the pair will be performing sonatas by Beethoven and Shubert's 'Arpeggioni' Sonata alongside works by Weber and young Scottish composer Stuart MacRae.

Their performance in the Great Hall at 7.30pm next Thursday, October 30, is part of the Lancaster International Concert Series.

After winning the 1994 BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition, Natalie Clein (left) became the first British winner of the Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians in Warsaw.

Born in 1977, she studied at the Royal College of Music and went on to study in Vienna with Heinrich Schiff, making her concerto debut at the BBC Proms in 1997.

As a soloist she has performed with most of the UK's major orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, the London Mozart Players and BBC Symphony. Most recently she took to the stage with the Hall Orchestra.

Paul Lewis (right) is 30, and appears regularly in recital, chamber music, and as a concerto soloist at the world's major musical venues and festivals.

His acclaimed Schubert Piano Sonata Series won him both the 2003 South Bank Show Classical Music Award and the 2003 Royal Philharmonic Society's Instrumentalist of the Year award. He also won a nomination for the 2003 Classical Brits Young British Classic Performer of the Year.

Paul Lewis' career has taken him all over Europe, Australia and the US, and he has also been a regular performer at the BBC Proms.
