STEVE Wilkes had nothing but praise for his Darwen battlers, despite letting North West Counties Division Two leaders Colne do the double over them on Wednesday.
The Anchor Ground side came close to earning their first clean sheet of the season but succumbed to an injury-time winner for Colne at Holt House.
But Wilkes was delighted with how hard his team had worked through the entire game.
"They showed me on Wednesday that they are a good side, can dig in and are capable of getting a result," he said.
"It's not six weeks since Colne beat us 5-1 at home so I've got to take the positives of going to their place and holding out for the best part of 90 minutes."
Darwen entertain Formby tomorrow in the Division Two Trophy second round.
