A MAN saw red when his nextdoor neighbour, the father of a one-day-old baby, asked him to keep the noise down.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Lee Holding, who has learning difficulties, went out and vandalised the infant's mother's car, causing an estimated £300 of damage.

Holding, of Eastham Street, Burnley, who struck on his 24th birthday, admitted damage and was bailed until November 10 for compensation details.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, told the court the victim Susan Hogg had given birth to a baby the day before the offence.

She and her husband were at home, heard noises coming from next door and the baby's father leaned over the wall and asked Holding to keep the noise down. The defendant was shouting, swearing and was abusive.

Mrs Hogg then heard smashing from the front of the house, looked out and saw the windscreen of her car had been smashed. Holding was running back to his house.

Duncan Nightingale, defending, said Holding claimed he and Mrs Hogg's partner had a row.

The defendant claimed he was knocked to the floor by Mrs Hogg's partner so he went into his house, armed himself with something and took it out on their car.

Mr Nightingale added Holding was not seen by anybody smashing the window, but accepted he broke it.
