THE new Tesco store in Burnley will open its doors to shoppers next week.

More than 300 full and part time jobs have been created at the supermarket in Centenary Way.

Store manager, Lee Chadwick, said the recruitment programme had been a great success.

He said: "It is wonderful to see people taking up a career with Tesco. The response has been excellent and we have created a team of staff committed to ensuring customers enjoy their shopping trips.

"The store has brought lots of jobs to the area and I feel that this will benefit the town of Burnley in the long term."

This week Lee received the key to the door of the new store his week from project manager, Shaun Delaney, in time for the grand opening next week.

The 34-year-old, who has worked for the supermarket giant for 18 years and was head-hunted for Burnley from the company's Halifax store, said: "Everyone here is very excited about the opening of the new store in Burnley."

The supermarket, which is only the second Tesco store in the country to be built on stilts to provide secure, covered parking underneath, will open its doors to the public at 9am on Monday, November 3.

However, the official opening ceremony will be held at 10am with a local hero, yet to be announced, cutting the ribbon alongside players from Burnley Football Club.

Music will be also provided by Burnley Silver Band, who will be performing for customers.

In addition to the supermarket's usual food ranges there will also be non-food departments, including clothing, electrical goods and a cook shop. There is also a petrol filling station, which opens to the public on Saturday, November 1.
