HISTORIC buildings in Earby could become part of a designated conservation area under plans to go before councillors next week.

A report to Pendle Council's West Craven committee lists recommendations that residents should be consulted about.

If councillors vote to push ahead with the plans, everyone living in the proposed zone would receive a letter asking for their views before a final decision is taken.

The committee resolved to support the idea of a conservation area following an approach from Earby Parish Council in December 2002.

Meetings between various groups, including the local history society, established that a single conservation area covering the best parts of early and Victorian Earby was better than several smaller zones.

The draft boundaries were drawn up by the council's conservation and environmental improvements officer. The proposed area includes three listed buildings - the Old Grammar School, Waddington Farm and White Lion.

Conservation proposals will be discussed at a meeting of West Craven Committee next Tuesday at the Rolls Royce Social Club, Barnoldswick, at 7pm.
