THE memory of a Burnley teenager has helped raise £3,500 for a cancer charity.

Jim Granger, landlord of the Corporation, Oxford Road, is to bring a two-year fund-raising campaign to a head on Friday with a presentation and fundraising night.

Jim Granger, with the help of local fundraisers has notched-up £3,500 for The Christie Hospital, Manchester, through a variety of cringe-worthy fund-raising events.

The quick-thinking landlord took advantage of the successful ITV1 bush reality gameshow I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and the box-office smash film The Full Monty to raise cash for the charity.

The fundraisers have been held in memory of 18-year-old local John Vallis, who died from leukaemia two years ago.

Jim set up his own Bush Tucker Trial as seen on the hit show and challenged pub regulars to take part in a series of ghastly games.

He cooked up a variety of eight taste-tingling treats including a live cricket dish, a maggot soup and a casserole of jellied eels.

And in another of his wacky events he organised his own rendition of the Full Monty -- performed by the pub's locals.

Jim said: "We didn't expect to raise so much money but all the events have been really successful. We have invited representatives from The Christie Hospital to accept the cheque on Friday and we will be having a live artist, karaoke a free pie and pea supper as well as a raffle."

He added: "John's mum, Moira will also be present on the night to present the money representatives from Christies."

The cheque is being handed over on Friday at 9pm.
