THE season got off to a rousing start for Worsthorne Men's Group when almost 30 members enjoyed Roger Frost's illuminating, and illuminated, talk on The Lancashire Calder.

They journeyed from the Ice Age through the Industrial Revolution to the present day and from Cliviger to Whalley with numerous interesting diversions along the way.

The group meets next on November 11 at 8pm in the Church Rooms when Jack Ireland will be reflecting on the First World War.

The Christmas meeting is on December 9 with a visit to Radio Lancashire in Blackburn and a meal afterwards. Transport may be available if the demand is there, at a reasonable cost.

FOLLOWING complaints to Councillor Philip Walsh regarding the willy nilly abandonment of emptied wheelie bins around the village he has obtained clarification of the responsibilities of residents, Burnley Borough Council and Biffa on the location of wheelie bins once placed on the pavement for emptying.

The procedure is that bins should be left on the property by residents, emptied and returned to the property by Biffa in order to ensure there was no obstruction on the pavement.

Coun Walsh said: "Burnley Borough Council has spoken to Biffa to ensure that wheelie bins are returned to properties after being emptied. If the above procedure is not being adhered to residents must inform Burnley Borough Council officer, Brent Holden on 425011."

THE Remembrance Service takes place on Sunday, November 9.
