A ONE-WAY system will be put into place on Pendle Hill on Friday to marshal Hallowe'en visitors.

Police are preparing for 'a large number' of visitors and officers and mountain rescue volunteers will be on standby as both sides of the hill will be open.

A temporary one-way system is planned and drivers will be able to go from the A59 up the hill, then over to Sabden, through to Barley and around the hill.

Vehicles will not be able to get on to the hill from Sabden and a one-way system will operate between Barley and Four Lane Ends.

A 30mph speed limit will be in place from the Wellsprings on Pendle Hill to the cattle grid on the Sabden side of the hill.

Parking will be available on the hillside and drivers are being asked to leave their sidelights on.

No parking will be allowed at the top of the hill and police officers will be enforcing parking restrictions in Barley and Sabden throughout the evening.

Sergeant Ian Kirk, co-ordinator at Clitheroe Police, said: "We are expecting a large number of people to visit this year and would ask that anyone going on to the hill wear appropriate clothing, stay on designated footpaths and don't wander too far.

"It is very easy to get lost if the weather is poor or if there is low cloud."
