A MAN has planted bulbs in a Padiham park in memory of his father who was the park superintendent for more than 40 years.
Donald Harris donated £150 to the Friends of Memorial Park group to buy the bulbs and visited the park, off Blackburn Road, yesterday to help members of the group plant them in memory of his dad Fred, who worked for Padiham Urban Council.
The 82-year-old, whose family moved to live in the park house when he was just three years old, worked for his father and helped keep the park in good condition for many years until the family moved to Coventry in 1954.
Donald then worked for the parks department in Coventry until his retirement. He still lives in the Midlands. He said: "I knew the Friends ran a scheme where bulbs could be planted in memory of someone who had passed away and I thought it would be good to make a donation so that some could be planted in my father's name. He was associated with the park for around 40 years so it seemed a fitting thing to do."
