FIVE cows, some of them winners of minor prizes, were removed from the dairy show at the Olympia London following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease at Worcester.
Two cases of polio were confirmed in Accrington.
Seventy-two-year-old John Cook of Brown Street, Blackburn, a machinist at Foster, Yates and Thorn Ltd retired after 58 years' service at the firm. He said: "I'm going to have a good rest and do nowt except go and watch Rovers."
