A MAN has been jailed for 10 months after CCTV cameras filmed his involvement in a fight in Leigh town centre.
The incident outside Ruebens nightclub on Lord Street in the early hours of Sunday, January 26 was captured on film, and the footage shown to Bury Crown Court.
Stephen Lee, aged 26, of Rutland Street, Leigh was jailed last Friday after pleading guilty to violent assault.
PC Cliff Bamber of Wigan Police said: "The message is clear that neither the Police nor the courts will tolerate late night town centre violence.
"Even though in this case, no complaints were made to the Police, the offence of violent disorder was committed, and we have and will again pursue this matter with video evidence alone.
"Wigan has a thriving and popular nightlife which attracts people from around the area, and these people rightly expect to enjoy a night out with their friends in safety, and we are committed to ensuring that they do so.
"The very small minority who are intent on spoiling people's night out can expect to explain their actions to a judge at a later date after they have been caught on CCTV.
"Those who intend to become involved in violence are advised to stay away, CCTV is watching you and we will find you."
Leigh Councillor Keith Cunliffe said: "We have nearly 500 cameras installed around the borough, which makes our system one of the largest in the country and greatly increases the chances of criminal activity being filmed."
