PENNINGTON Park is earmarked for a multi-purpose gazebo which can also be used as a bandstand.
Plans have gone to the planning department after Wigan Council consulted around 500 local residents on the bandstand and landscaping work proposals -- receiving a 91 per cent vote of confidence from those who returned questionnaires.
The gazebo will be designed to complement the formal nature of the park and encourage use by people of all ages for all kinds of activities.
A £50 Asda voucher was offered to residents as an incentive for the return of the questionnaires and the winner, Mr J Gaskell, is pictured with (front l-r): local councillor John O'Brien, Chair of the Hope Carr/Leigh East Twin Ward Risk Management Group and community bobby Wayne Burton. At the back (l-r) are: Andrew Sharrock, Township Manager for Leigh, Golborne & Lowton; Janine Morton, Township Support Officer; and Anne Cockram of Wigan Leisure & Cultural Trust.
