TRANSPORT chiefs have paid tribute to the work of the Ring and Ride bus service.
Members of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority saluted the charity which provides a door to door service and which last year made 165,000 journeys throughout Wigan borough.
The borough's representative Cllr John Hilton, said: "The work Greater Manchester Accessible Transport Ltd put in to making this service a success is not to be underestimated. The company easily exceeded the passenger target we set for them last year.
"I would like to join other members in thanking the staff and particularly the 40 people who work in the Wigan depot for the hard work they have put in. I wish them even more success with their important work in the future."
Ring and Ride operates from 7.45am to 10.45pm seven days a week (excluding bank holidays) and passengers must register with the service indicating why they are unable to use ordinary public transport.
Then they telephone the day before they wish to travel and book their journey. The service can be contacted via the website www.ringandride.info or ring 01942 492 254.
