I HAVE used BT's new directory inquiries for the first time. I was surprised that on finding the number the operator asked if I wanted to be put through.
Thankfully I had read that companies are charging extra for this service and just requested the number to dial myself.
The deregulation of the directory inquiries market has lead to customers who have been kept in the dark about hidden charges being milked.
Now the Independent Commission for the Supervision of Standards in Telephone Information Services says callers must be given the information before they are transferred. I should think so do.
It's disgusting that we are charged for directory inquiries in the first place, it is a service that should have remained free. We pay high enough bills.
Anyone wanting to stop junk mail should write to The Mailing Preference Service, Freepost 29, LON 20771, London W1, EOZT or to stop nuisance telephone sales calls ring the telephone preference service on 0845 703 4599.
