I'VE received three complaints from fellow whingers this week -- one about British Gas canvassers, another about cowboy block pavers and a flash of temper about fireworks.

A 76-years-old Atherton couple claim they have been harassed five times in six weeks by BG agents asking them to change their suppliers -- despite a door notice requesting no canvassers and disconnecting the doorbell. For goodness sake why don't these mitherers leave people alone. If they want to change they will without being pestered.

Some Atherton residents allege they are also being plagued by a team of door knocking Irish pavers ripping people off, charging ridiculous prices and wanting money up front for work to be done badly or simply scooting off with it. You have been warned.

In Astley the firework fiasco continues. Last Friday at 2am families were aroused from their sleep by loud multi bangers being let off. The scenario was repeated at 5.45am on Sunday.

Residents claim the police tell them they can do nothing about it. Unfortunately we have to endure until next year when stricter new laws come into being.

For those whose pets suffer distress brought on by fireworks a Lowton reader informs me that a CD desensitisation programme is available from a Cheshire vet to help dogs in fear, like mine, become accustomed to the sound of fireworks. It should be played to them for a few weeks before Bonfire night. Sadly this info came a little too late for this year, but I'll bear it in mind in future.

For a copy people can contact vet Pete Coleshaw at Wright and Moreton on 01260 273222.

At £13.99 it's cheap at twice the price if it works.
