OLD Clavians Golf Society celebrated their 50th birthday this year and marked the occasion by sending a team of seven to the Cote D'Azur, France for a fixture against the Riviera Ex-Pats Golf Society.
The Riviera Society is only in it's first year but has already 100 members of different nationalities.
The visiting party stayed in Antibes and practiced on the Saint Donat GC course before playing the match over Le Grande Bastide course near Grasse.
The hospitality and generosity of the host society was huge and greatly appreciated, however, it didn't extend to the match which REGS won 3-1.
Society caps and shirts were exchanged to leave enduring memories for both sides.
The Old Clavians team were represented by current captain Mel Ince, John Riggs, John Spencer, John Yates, Glyn Evans, John Holland and Howard Manwaring. Andrew Rigby was unable to travel due to a recurrence of a back problem so a honorary country membership was granted to Nick Riggs (a legitimate BGS old boy) to complete the team.
There are now plans for the REGS team to visit Britain next year.
