REGARDING Andrew Rosthorn's remarks (LET, October 23), I would ask how many people with adverse comments on the current road set-up in Tockholes live on the main road through the village. I doubt very much whether many do -- I know Mr Rosthorn does not, thankfully.

My wife and I moved to West View Terrace in Tockholes in January, 2000, and in the short time we lived there our car and numerous neighbours' vehicles were badly damaged. It was only by good fortune that nobody was killed.

When we moved there, a resident asked where we lived and commented: "We hear a bang and wonder whose car or person it could be."

I cannot praise the councillors Colin and Jean Rigby enough for their community efforts. Once again, if people -- local or otherwise -- maintain the correct speed there is no problem, and the journey time through the village of approximately seven minutes is not too much to ask.

Finally, anyone wishing to enjoy the excellent food and hospitality of the Tockholes pubs should not be put off by traffic-calming measures. I know we never have been.
