AS residents back plans to build a Morrisons store in Whitefield, the competition for land hots up with the launch of an alternative scheme.
Details of a residential development were revealed this week as initial plans for Crosby Homes to build on land at the corner of Bury New Road and Stanley Road have been changed.
Their fiinanciers Nikal Investments have instead teamed up with David McLean Homes.
The first phase which would feature
four storeys of 118 one and two bedroom apartments
ground floor retail units
10,000 sq ft food store/supermarket
children's day nursery
bars and restaurants
This would be on land owned by the council and GMPTE.
Phase Two would be on the former Brand Centre site and include a residential development of town houses and apartments, plus a community or library building.
A spokesman for David McLean Homes said: "This will be more beneficial to the local community as there are a range of different shops."
