TEENAGER Lee Herkes is creating waves in the world of extreme sports.
At just 13 the Hindley schoolboy is a jet ski whiz in competition and performs at shows with the British team.
Lee, who rides a 750cc Kawasaki SXI Pro machine, is following in the footsteps of his step father Keith Rimmer, a five times British freestyle champion.
His first year in the sport has seen him end his debut season ranked number 2 in Great Britain at junior level and 9 overall in the pro class.
Now Lee, of Alderley Road, is seeking sponsorship to help him become the number 1 junior and stay in the top three of the Freestyle National Tour.
The love of the sport started 10 years ago when Keith took a holiday jet ski ride in Greece. He started riding for recreation but was asked to compete and found amazing success.
Lee, who also plays defence for his Hindley Community School football team took to the sport like a duck to water and now performs in water shows with Keith and two other senior riders.
Keith never ceases to amaze the crowds with his multicoloured fountain and ariel manoevres and Lee can be seen balancing on the nose of Keith's SXR at shows at home and abroad.
Keith is also featured on the Playstation 2 game Jetski Riders!
The duo spend their weekends practising at Northampton and Wirral and this summer have taken part in seven shows and displays ranging from Paris to Glasgow.
Lee, a 'veteran' of 14 competitions, is a backer as fuel costs have this year reached £1,500 this year, he also has to budget for a wet suit, gloves and boots, entry fees and parts and labour for his machine.
Mum Nicola said: "It seems an unusual hobby for a youngster but to see him controlling a 25 stone machine is an amazing sight. He just loves it and there is a big following everywhere we go.
"We would like to thank TC Entertainments in Leigh who have helped to put his portfolio together. Anyone else who would be willing to sponsor Lee can e mail .boonie_lee2003@yahoo.co.uk or ring 01942 521703 or 07957690670."
