A £1 million industrial development which will breathe new life into a former factory site is now under way.

Work has begun on the construction of six high quality industrial units on the former New Bridge Mill site in Dumers Lane. The land formerly housed the Bibby and Baron factory.

The contract for the building work has been won by regional property developers Barnfield Construction. The work is being undertaken on behalf of Yorkshire-based Bracken Developments Ltd.

Under construction are six quality industrial units ranging from 3,200 sq ft to 6,000 sq ft. The units are designed for trade counter use such as plumbing centres, hire centres and will feature individual loading doors and service areas, designated parking on a self contained secure site next to the River Irwell.

Once completed, the site will be known as Bracken Trade Park.

Mark Taylforth, property director at Barnfield, said: "We are sure the units will be highly successful and will provide excellent accommodation for existing and new businesses."

Neil Clark, joint managing director of Bracken Developments, commented: "Initial interest in the scheme has been very strong."

Councillor Tim Chamberlain, Bury Council executive member for housing and regeneration, added: "We welcome the construction of high quality industrial units that can create local employment opportunities in this attractive location. They will contribute to the council's aspiration to create vibrant mixed use neighbourhoods and I am sure they will be very successful."

The units are being offered on a leasehold basis.
