ROVERS defender Markus Babbel is backing his team-mates to return to winning ways against Leicester City on Sunday.

The German defender completed his rapid recovery from a thigh injury with his first game for a month in the 4-3 Carling Cup defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.

And it's the way Blackburn started and finished the match that has convinced Babbel they can return from their first trip to the Walkers Stadium with three points.

It would be their first victory in eight games and end a run of four successive Premiership defeats.

But a visit to bottom of the table City makes it the ideal time for Rovers to pick up where they left off in the midweek seven-goal thriller.

"It was one of our best team performances of the season and if we play the same style of football at Leicester, we'll definitely win," said Babbel.

"Everybody played well and showed a great team spirit to come back from 4-1 to make it 4-3.

"The fans can see that we're playing for 90 minutes and and trying to score goals, playing with an attacking mentality.

"For everybody to be playing so well after the results we've had in the last few weeks means we should be confident."

Babbel also believes that Rovers can take heart from the fact that they dominated the early stages of the game before Lucas Neill was sent off.

He added: "In the first half we played brilliantly and created a lot of chances but the only problem was we couldn't score the goals.

"Then Liverpool's first chance is a goal and in the run we're on, one mistake is always a goal.

"It's difficult with 10 men against a good team like Liverpool, you have to work hard and they have a lot of quality.

"When you concede an early goal in the second half you have to then play forward and we got caught, we were unlucky.

"But Sunday is the next chance for Premiership points and maybe we'll change direction."

Wednesday night's third round tie was Babbel's first taste of first team action since limping out of the Premiership game against Fulham with a torn thigh muscle a month ago.

His lay-off was originally expected to be six weeks but he had no qualms about rushing back to action too soon to take on his former club.

"I feel well and feel confident the injury has healed," said Babbel.

"The doc and physio have done a very good job."
