BACUP boss Brent Peters has made his first signing of a possible three after reacquainting himself with Darren Emmett.

Emmett, who he used to manage at Rossendale, has signed a two-year contract with the West View side after injury limited his chances at Chorley.

And Peters believes the capture of Emmett, and the possibility of another two signings next week, could spur his team on to fight for their shirts.

"Darren is a good signing for us. He was successful for me at Rossendale and hopefully will do the same at Bacup," he said.

"I am trying to get two more signings in for next week. I hope that this will give me an extra 15-20 per cent from the lads on Saturday."

However, Emmett he is not eligible for Saturday's First Round League Challenge Cup clash at home to Second Division Ashton Town because he wasn't signed in time.

Although Ashton are in a lower tier than Borough, Peters expects a tough traditional tie.

"They weren't a bad side last year, and have had a good start to this season. They will go into the game with nothing to lose," he said.

"We have been shooting ourselves in the foot defensively recently, and being a cup-tie anything could happen."

Bacup welcome back defender Sean Cryer into the squad for Saturday's game, and he should strengthen the backline. But Lee Anderson will be missing for the next few games due to family commitments.
