HELPFUL locals with a good memory could bag themselves a month's free bus travel if they can help council bosses solve a mystery.
Phil Huddart, quality bus project manager for the county council, is looking for information on what is thought to be the city's only wrought iron bus shelter.
The stop, on Black Bull Lane in Preston, is part of routes 22 and 23 to the Royal Preston Hospital, and the council is hoping to restore it, but need information on how the 70-year-old shelter used to look.
Phil Huddart said: "The shelter is in reasonably good condition but really needs renovating. It would be far easier to rip it up and replace it with a modern shelter but I'm sure Preston residents would consider that to be sacrilege!
"That's why we want people's help to piece together its history so we can preserve another part of the city's heritage."
Preston Bus is offering one free month's travel on its services to the person who can provide the best information.
