HUNDREDS of people will pay tribute to those who gave their lives for others at this weekend's Remembrance Sunday parades.

Ceremonies will take place throughout the area.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Cliff Morris, will lead civic officials, representatives from the ethnic communities and political and religious leaders at the ceremony in Victoria Square, Bolton.

Ex-servicemen and women will begin to gather at Le Mans Crescent at 10.25am from where they will march to Bolton Town Hall, led by a Land Rover and gun from 216 Battery, The Bolton Artillery. They will be accompanied by The Lancashire Artillery Band and the Hoover Band.

At 11am, the old soldiers will stand to attention for the two minutes' silence before a service which will be led by the Vicar of Bolton, Canon Michael Williams.

Two maroons will be fired at the start and finish of the ceremony and children from Oxford Grove Primary School and St James's Secondary School will lay wreaths on behalf of the town's young citizens.

Other Remembrance Sunday services include:

HORWICH: Ex-servicemen and women will assemble at Emmett Street from 10am where a brass band will play inside the club. They will depart at 11.30am for a parade, followed by a Service of Remembrance at 12.15pm in the Gardens of Remembrance, Lever Park Avenue.

FARNWORTH: The Farnworth branch of the British Legion will gather at the Hawkers Social Club, Gladstone Road, from 10am - 10.15am. They will march at 10.30am for the parade at the war memorial in Farnworth Park.

All members of the public are invited to the parade and service, as well as the family afternoon back at the club.

KEARSLEY: The parade will leave Kearsley Cricket Club at 9.45am for a service at the war memorial on Bolton Road at 10am. They will march to St Stephen's Church for the Service of Remembrance at 10.30am.

HALLIWELL: St Matthew's Church, Brownlow Way, will hold morning prayer at 10.30am followed by a later service at 6.30pm to remember those who lost their lives in wars and conflicts.

BLACKROD: A Remembrance Day service will take place at the village cemetery. Wreath laying will take place at 2.15pm at the war memorial at Blackrod cemetery, followed by a procession to St Katherine's Church for a service at 3pm.

WESTHOUGHTON: The parade will assemble at Greenfields Private Members Club at 9.20am, departing for the Parish Church of St Bartholomew at 9.40am for the service at 10am. This will be followed by a short service at 10.40am.

The parade will then march up Church Street, along Lord Street, The Avenue, Central Drive, Bolton Road and Market Street, returning to Greenfields Private Member's Club.

BURY:

Fusiliers who fought in Iraq

will lead Bury's annual tribute to soldiers who gave their lives in wars over the last century.

Members of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, will wear desert clothing for the Remembrance Day parade through the town centre on Sunday.

The parade will leave Bury Town Hall at 10.30am and proceed along Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street and Market Street. It will arrive at the War Memorial in Market Place for the two minutes' silence at 11am, where wreaths will be laid before the service in Bury Parish Church. It will be followed, at 12.15pm, by a march past.

RADCLIFFE: The parade will assemble at the Royal British Legion on Water Street from 10am onwards, before setting off for the war memorial shortly before 11am.

Following the wreath laying and two minutes' silence, the parade will then continue to St Thomas and St John's Church where a service will be held from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

LEIGH: Assemble at Marsh Gymnasium, Ullswater Street between 10.15am and 10.30am. They will march to the memorial in Church Street Gardens via Railway Road, Market Street, Lord Street, Charles Street and Church Street.

There will be a return procession at the end of the service, the route to be taken being along Church Street, Vernon Street, Bradshawgate, Market Street and St Mary's Way to the Town Hall Square.

TYLDESLEY: The parade will form on the Market Square at 10.20am. Five minutes later the procession will head along Elliott Street, Manchester Road and Hough Lane where wreaths will be laid at the war memorial in the cemetery.

Marchers will return to the Market Square via Hough Lane, Manchester Road and Elliott Street following the service.

ATHERTON: The procession assembles at 10.30am at the Formby Hall, Alder Street, leaving at 10.35am via Alder Street, High Street, and Tyldesley Road. It will stop at the Baptist Church Memorial, before proceeding along Tyldesley Road via Market Street and Leigh Road to the war memorial.

The return route will be along Hamilton Street, Tyldesley Road and High Street and then on to the Formby Hall.

An evening service will be held at Atherton Parish Church at 6.30pm when the Remembrance Book -- a tribute to the fallen of two World Wars -- will be rededicated.
