OLD soldiers will parade throughout the area on Sunday to remember the millions who died in conflict.

And relatives of the fallen, plus many who simply want to show their respect, will take part in the separate processions.

At Leigh marchers will assemble at Marsh Gymnasium, Ullswater Street at 10.15am and at 10.30am will walk to the memorial in Church Street Gardens via Railway Road, Market Street, Lord Street, Charles Street and Church Street. Councillor J.Hilton, Deputy Mayor will lay the wreath on behalf of the Council during the service.

There will be a return procession at the end, the route to be taken being along Church Street, Vernon Street, Bradshawgate, Market Street and St Mary's Way to the Town Hall Square.

In Tyldesley the parade will form on the Market Square at 10.20am. Five minutes later the procession will head along Elliott Street, Manchester Road and Hough Lane where wreaths will be laid at the war memorial in the cemetery.

Marchers will return to the Market Square via Hough Lane, Manchester Road and Elliott Street following the service, Councillor Alan Stephenson will take the salute as the parade passes the Town Hall.

In Atherton the procession assembles at 10.30am at the Formby Hall, Alder Street, leaving at 10.35am via Alder Street, High Street, and Tyldesley Road. It will stop at the Baptist Church Memorial, before proceeding to Tyldesley Road via Market Street and Leigh Road to the war memorial.

The return route will be along Hamilton Street, Tyldesley Road and High Street then to the Formby Hall.

An evening service will be held at Atherton Parish Church at 6.30pm when the Remembrance Book, a tribute to the fallen of two world wars instigated by Mayor and Atherton councillor the late Len Sumner, will be rededicated.

The service will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the formation of Atherton branch of the Royal Naval Association.

At Golborne a Service of Remembrance will be held at Golborne War Memorial in Barn Lane at 2.30pm following a parade from the Legh Court car park, Legh Street, Golborne. Marchers should gather at 2.15pm prompt. Wreaths will be laid by the Mayor and Mayoress.

In Hindley the procession will assemble on the district office car park in Cross Street from 10.30am, leaving at 10.45am. A short service and wreath laying ceremony will be held at the war memorial. After divine service at St Peter's Church walkers will then reassemble and proceed along Atherton Road, George Street, Chapel Green Road, Bridge Street, Market Street and Cross Street to the district office car park for the national anthem and dispersal.

Lowton people will remember at a service being held at 10.30am in St Mary's Church, Newton Road. Assemble in the school yard at 10.20am. After the service, wreaths will be laid by a representative of the Council and other organisations taking part.
