LEIGH Harriers' cross country stars scored four team victories when they hosted the second South East Lancashire League match at Marshall Street College.

The course covered the site for the planned Leigh Sports Village and brought a trio of wins for girls in the U17s, U15s and U13s age groups and one for the U17s' boys.

In the girls' U13s Hannah Warburton continued her unbeaten start to the season despite suffering a heavy cold. She was a clear winner over the 3000m course in 9min 34sec and led home Victoria Green in fourth and Amy Riley in fifth who ran out of their skins. Kirsty Hogan was fourth counter in 16th.

Lauren Howarth got back to winning ways leading the U15s home in 12 min 44sec for the two miles event. Sister Rebecca finished third and Kellie Thornton tenth.

Over the U17s' four miles Amanda Fearnley crossed the line third in 28min 28sec and was supported by birthday girl Adele Swanton in fourth and Emma Morris eighth.

The U17 boys saw Mike Goddard lead Leigh home in second over the four mile course followed by Alex Urmston (6th), Neil Pendlebury (10th) and Andy Edwards (11th).

Abigail Howarth found good form to finish runner-up in the girls' U11 1500m in 5min 01sec. She was followed in by Emily Prior (5th), Faye Horrocks (7th), S Johnson (9th), Sophia Thornton (12th), Kashmier McCann 17th and Rebecca Thompson (19th) for second team place overall.

The U11s boys finished third thanks to Jack Ryan 12th, Isaac Southern 15th and Jack Castledine 18th.

In the U13 agegroup Isaac McCann consolidated his third place in the league with a good one and a half miles run in 9min 30sec while Chris Foulds, improving with ever race, was 16th.

The ladies' had a tough battle over their four miles which resulted in Sara Cain beating her team mates for the first time and finishing in 33rd place in 31min 18sec.

Marjorie Leigh followed in 35th and was the over 55 winner while Eileen Castledine was third over 45.

The senior men's 9000m saw second claim member Scott Hughes finish a close second in 32min 27sec, while Phil Foster put himself in line for an overall award finishing third in 33min 50sec. John Howarth was 16th, Martin Conroy 61st, Andy Arnold 74th, Dave Helps 83rd, John Indricks 89th and Joe Cooke 140th.
