GOLBORNE Parkside lost their unbeaten record when Thatto Heath did them the honour of bringing five of their National league first team players to record a 19-16 win.

But it was also a day of success for the open age team who in March of this year folded when they had only five players to fulfill their last three fixtures.

Last Saturday, despite players not available through work and injuries, they fielded two teams of 17 players in each squad.

However this success creates its own problems and the club are anxious to recruit people to help behind the scenes in any way would be most welcome as would be a second team coach to join the coaching staff of this progressive club and any one interested should contact secretary John Prince on 01942 725793.

Thatto Heath took an early lead with a penalty goal and extended it to eight points after 10 minutes as Golborne lost prop forward Paul Burns with a knee injury.

Golborne hit back with a try from James Byrne but a further Thatto try and goal pushed the score on to 14 -4 in their favour. Michael McKight reduced the deficit to 14-8 with a well taken try but right on half time Thatto dropped a goal.

Ten minutes into the second half Golborne reduced the lead to three with a try from Leon Davy, but lost loose forward Paul Crook with a bad ankle injury.

With 15 minutes left Golborne took the lead for the first time in the game with a tr, from man of the match David Long. But this was shortlived as Thatto regained the lead. Golborne throwing every thing at them they had enough experience to hold on.

This Saturday they are at home to Widnes Tigers, ko 2pm. Players meet at 12 20 pm.

The 'A' side defeated Newton Storm 20-10 in a keenly fought local derby.

The powerful Golborne forwards made all the early impressions and after five minutes play they took the lead with a unconverted try from Chris Miller. The lead was increased 10 -0 when full back Ryan Kelly broke the line and raced 45 meters before passing to David Hindley who raced 45 meters for a try converted by himself.

This spurred Newton into their best spell and they made it 10 -10 at half time with two tries and one conversion.

Golborne regained the lead with a penalty goal and two drop goals from David Hindley. With 15 minutes remaining and Storm attacking the Golborne line, big centre Andrew Makinson making his dbut intercepted and raced 95 meters for a try converted by Hindley to make the game safe.

Man of the Match was Michael Prince closely followed by Duane Alder and David Hindley. This Saturday the (A) team are away at Latchford Albion players meet at 12.20.

An injury hit U18s side still had too much power for Oldham St Annes and ran out 34-4 winners to reach the Lancashire Cup quarter final. Tries came from Stuart Goulding 3, Danny Smith, Chris Renolds, Martin Plover and Craig Ashall. Ashall also kicked three goals.

The U14s rimped to Lancashire Cup victory with a nine try demolitaion of Rochdale Mayfield. Tries were scored by Simon Williams 2, Ryan Wignall 2, Jimmy Thomlinson 2, Lewis Hugh, Jeff Kent, Aaron Parkinson with 5 goals from Scott Cash.

The U10s continued their good progress with an 18-16 win over Pilkingtons.

Early breaks by Bradley Cunliffe brought tries but despite good work from Greg Wilde and Ben Currie, Pilk's edged into the lead. Second half tries from Andrew Gibson and Ross Pendlebury sealed the win.
