A WOMAN is fighting for her life after having both her legs amputated in a collision with a passing train at St Annes Rail Station.
The incident occurred at the station on St Andrews Road North at around 5.30am on Tuesday, November 5.
It is not yet clear how the empty train -- which was headed towards Blackpool South -- came to strike the 39-year-old local woman.
A member of the public contacted emergency services after hearing noises coming from the line.
Train services to and from the station were delayed for more than two hours as firefighters from St Annes and South Shore and paramedics moved the victim from the side of track where she had been thrown.
It is believed that both her legs were severed below the knee in the accident. She is described as being in a "comfortable" condition at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
British Transport Police have launched an enquiry into the incident which is not thought to be suspicious.
