BRENT Peters is ready to raid Chorley for more new signings after declaring that his players are "not up to the First Division."

The Bacup Borough boss has already signed Darren Emmett from Victory Park and is also lining up Lee Wilkinson.

Peters was hoping to hold talks with the Chorley striker before tomorrow's North West Counties Division One game at home to Abbey Hey, but he should have a stronger squad to choose from than on Tuesday.

Lee Anderson, Nicky Taylor, Martin Peters and Ian McLellan all missed the 2-0 defeat at Nantwich, a result which left Peters questioning the quality of his squad in their first season after promotion.

"I said when we came up I'd give the lads a chance because they gave us the Division Two championship, but they're struggling with the pace .

"Players are really not good enough for the first division and that's the simple fact.

"No disrespect to them, they're good footballers, but I've got to look at bringing in some players from a higher level and that's very difficult.

"What's wrong at the moment is we're creating chances and not finishing them then shooting ourselves in the foot at the other end.

"Games are coming thick and fast and I'm trying to do something about it but short of putting a rope round someone's neck and dragging them here, I can only wait and be patient."

Peters has also put seven days' notice of an approach in for Lee Buggie, the former Clitheroe midfielder who is now at Salford City.

Striker David Gray, meanwhile, has gone in the other direction, joining the Moor Lane club.

Also missing tomorrow will be Sean Cryer, whose shin splints injury has flared up again and will sideline him for a month, while goalkeeper Tommy Allen is suspended.
