CHAUFFEUR John Stephens enjoyed a reversal of fortunes when he was driven to the airport by his boss.

For John, who is more used to driving people around, was taken on the first leg of an epic fund-raising journey to Peru by his employer at Padiham-based travel firm Fraser Eagle.

Company boss Alan Dyson picked up 67-year-old John - who works part-time mainly as a chauffeur on door-to-door holiday service - and drove him to the airport in his Aston Martin Vanquish.

John, of Countess Street, Accrington, is aiming to complete a high-altitude trek to the lost city of Machu Picchu in the Andes mountains in aid of Action Research.

The charity helps to fund more than 120 projects throughout the United Kingdom, including research into life-threatening diseases and disabilities.

John, with the full backing of his family, is determined to fulfil his mission and support their work.

Alan said: "It's a tough challenge for John but we're sure he'll get there and see it through.

"He's part of the Fraser Eagle family and we wanted to help him realise his dream while supporting a worthy cause.

"I thought the least I could do at this stage was get him on his way."

John still requires additional help to fund his 'Andes adventure' and anyone able to help can send donations to Action Research or even goods which might be used as raffle prizes.
